ಈಗಾಗ್ಲೇ ಫೇಸ್ಬುಕ್ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಾಗ್ರಾಮ್ ತುಂಬೆಲ್ಲ ಈ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳ ಚಿತ್ರ ವಿಪರೀತ ಹರಿದಾಡುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಒಂದು ರೀತಿಯ ಹೈಪೇ ಆಗೋಗಿದೆ, ಕಾರಣ ಹಠಾತ್ ಹೊಸಕೋಟೆ ಕೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷ ! ಇದೇನು ಹೊಸದಲ್ಲ, ನಾಲ್ಕಾರು ವರ್ಷದ ಹಿಂದೆ ಕೂಡ ಬಂದಿತ್ತು. 

ಕೆಲವು ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ವಲಸೆ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗುವಾಗ ದಾರಿ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ತಮಗೆ ಹೇರಳವಾಗಿ ಆಹಾರ ಸಿಗುವಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ದಿನ ಠಿಕಾಣಿ ಹೂಡಿ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ ಪಡೆದು ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಆಹಾರ ಸೇವಿಸಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಹಾರಾಟ ನಡೆಸುವುದುಂಟು (ಪ್ಯಾಸೇಜ್ ಮೈಗ್ರೇಷನ್). ಬಹುಶಃ ಈ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳೂ ಕೂಡ ತಮ್ಮ ಚಳಿಗಾಲದ ವಲಸೆ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಸಂತಾನೋತ್ಪತ್ತಿ ಜಾಗದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಸಾಗುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತವೆ !

ಮಳೆ ರಡಾರ್

ಈ ರಾಜಹಂಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಅತೀಂದ್ರಿಯ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಿದೆ, ಇವು ಅಲೆಮಾರಿ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಶುಷ್ಕ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ವಿಕಸನವಾದಂತೆಲ್ಲ ರಾಜಹೊಂಸಗಳು ಕೆಲವು ನೂರು ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ ದೂರದಿನದ ಮಳೆಯಾಗುವ ಜಾಗ, ಮತ್ತು ಮಳೆಯ ತೀವ್ರತೆ ಗ್ರಹಿಸುವ ಶಕ್ತಿ ರೂಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ, ಪಡೆದಿದೆ. ಅಲೆದಾಡುವ ಈ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳು ಈರೀತಿ ಮಳೆಯನ್ನು ಗ್ರಹಿಸಿ ಕೆಲವೇ ಗಂಟೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಳೆಬಿದ್ದ ಜಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಸಂತಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಸಜ್ಜಾಗುವುದುಂಟು! ಈ ಹಕಿಗಳು ಸ್ವಾಭಾವಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಮಳೆ ರಡಾರ್ ಗಳೆಂದರೆ ತಪ್ಪಿಲ್ಲ !

Facebook and Instagram feeds are buzzing with gorgeous photos of these stunning birds lately? There is a massive hype around them right now, and for a reason—they have suddenly appeared at the Hoskote Lake!

This isn't their first visit. They were spotted here about four to five years ago too. This is a classic case of Passage Migration. When some birds head back after completing their winter migration, they break their journey at places where food is abundant. They pitch camp for a few days to rest, refuel, and recharge before taking flight again. These beautiful flamingos are likely doing just that—finishing up their winter vacation and heading back to their breeding grounds! 

Living Rain Radars! 

Did you know these flamingos possess an almost supernatural ability? As nomadic birds that typically live in arid regions, evolution has gifted them an incredible superpower: they can sense rainfall and its intensity from hundreds of kilometres away! 

By accurately predicting the rain, these wandering birds can reach a freshly rained-on location within just a few hours to prepare for nesting. It wouldn’t be wrong to call these birds nature's own living rain radars!
